The First Step To Becoming A Digital Nomad
Have you ever dreamed about a job that would let you travel the world and make money? You probably thought, “that sounds impossible” and pushed that dream aside to pursue a more practical career. Or maybe you’ve heard of the term “digital nomad”, which is someone who makes money online and can live anywhere in the world!
The first step to becoming a digital nomad is having a job that you can do remotely online. Let’s get into it!
Can you work from home with your current job? 💻
Right now the world is shut down and international travel is on hold. During this pandemic, many jobs have required people to work from home. This is a brilliant opportunity for you to see if your job has the potential to be fully online and location independent. You also get to test the waters and see if working independently is something you enjoy.
I don’t like my job! What jobs will help me become a digital nomad? 🌎
There are a bunch of Facebook groups and websites that showcase remote job positions, however most people that I met actually started their own business and freelance. Now the best type of business to start is a service based business. This means that you have a skill that someone will pay you to do!
Here are the 4 best service based business that you can start today:
1. Virtual Assistant - Best job for beginners
This job is a hidden gem! You could be an assistant and do small tasks for other business owners. You can offer a variety of services such as:
managing emails
organizing files
bookkeeping
scheduling appointments
helping out with social media
2. Social Media Manager - Best job for beginners
If you love Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok, Pinterest and Twitter then helping people manage their social media accounts is the way to go! The services you could offer are:
create monthly content for instagram by sourcing images and writing captions
respond to DM’s and reply to comments
create graphics for instagram posts, stories and Pinterest with Canva
schedule content to post for all the platforms
build a social media following by strategically making connections and using hashtags
3. Copywriter
If you love writing then this is the job for you! You can help people write copy for their:
website
blog posts
emails / newsletters
workbooks / freebie PDFs
social media captions
4. Website Designer
If you’re tech savvy and have a good visual eye for design then learn how to build sites and you’re set! This is what I did! Website platforms to learn:
Squarespace (my favourite)
Showit
Shopify
Wordpress
Nailing down your remote job is the hardest part of this digital nomad journey! So use this time to really research and pursue a “side-hustle” that will start to bring your digital nomad dreams to life.
